Auckland Domain

Auckland Domain is the city's oldest public park, established in 1845, covering 75 hectares in the inner suburb of Grafton. It occupies the bowl of an extinct volcanic crater, part of the broader Auckland volcanic field that dots the city with over 50 cones and craters. The Auckland War Memorial Museum crowns the park's highest ridge, housing major collections on Māori culture and New Zealand natural history. Expansive lawns, mature tree stands, and formal garden beds make the Domain a year-round destination for joggers, families, and cricket players. On clear days, the ridge offers open views across the city skyline and Waitemata Harbour.
