Auckland Town Hall

Auckland Town Hall, completed in 1911 on Queen Street in the city centre, is one of New Zealand's finest surviving Edwardian civic buildings, designed in a Neorenaissance style with a symmetrical Oamaru limestone facade and richly ornamented interiors. Its construction reflected the ambitions of a rapidly growing colonial city: the building was intended to project civic confidence and permanence at a time when Auckland was consolidating its status as a commercial hub. The building still functions as intended — council hearings and public sittings take place alongside a busy programme of concerts and events in its main hall. It is operated today by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited.
