St. Hanshaugen Park

St. Hanshaugen Park occupies a prominent hill just north of Oslo's city center and is one of the city's oldest public green spaces. Laid out in the Victorian style of the 19th century, its winding paths and open lawns follow the conventions of classic European urban park design. The park lent its name to the surrounding borough of St. Hanshaugen — an unusual case where a neighborhood takes its identity from its green space rather than the other way around. Today the park holds protected monument status in Norway and serves as a daily gathering point for local residents who walk, jog, or simply sit on its benches. From the hilltop, quiet views extend across the surrounding late-19th-century residential districts.
