Lithuania's highest point (293.84 m) near Vilnius, part of the Belarusian Ridge, officially confirmed by GPS survey in 2004.
At 293.84 metres, Aukštojas is the highest point in Lithuania and part of the Belarusian Ridge. It lies near the Belarusian border, close to the village of Medininkai, about 24 kilometres southeast of Vilnius. Only in 2004 did it officially replace the previous title holder, Juozapinė, after a GPS survey by the Geodetic Institute – the two hills stand just about 500 metres apart. In flat Baltic Lithuania, this modest hill is a nationally known landmark and an unpretentious natural milestone.
