August Horch Museum

The August Horch Museum in Zwickau is one of Germany's foremost automotive museums, tracing more than 120 years of car-building history in the region. It occupies the oldest surviving section of the former Audi factory — an industrial monument from the earliest days of German automobile manufacturing — and displays vehicles from Horch, Audi, DKW, Wanderer, and Trabant under one roof. August Horch himself founded his car factory in Zwickau in 1904; after a legal dispute forced him out of his own company, he established a second firm whose Latin translation of his name — 'Audi' — endures in the global brand today. First opened in 1988 as a GDR-era museum, the institution was relaunched in 2004 in a comprehensively restored factory building and expanded again in 2017.
