The Badisches Landesmuseum
The Badisches Landesmuseum has occupied the Baroque Karlsruhe palace since 1921 — one of the few German princely residences converted entirely into a public museum. Founded in 1919, its collections span more than 50,000 years of cultural history, from prehistoric artifacts and medieval art to 20th-century everyday life, with particular depth in the history of the Baden region. Notable holdings include ancient Greek and Roman antiquities acquired through the former margraves' collections, giving the museum an international reach well beyond its regional identity. Eight branch museums and outposts across Karlsruhe and Bruchsal extend the institution's footprint throughout the region. The palace building itself adds architectural weight to the visit, with Baroque interiors framing displays that range from archaeological finds to applied arts.
