Botanischer Garten des KIT

The KIT Botanical Garden is attached to the university's Botanical Institute and functions primarily as a living research and teaching collection rather than a recreational park. Its most distinctive mission is the conservation of endangered plant species, setting it apart from purely ornamental green spaces. Like the adjacent Schlossgarten, it traces its origins to the historic gardens of Karlsruhe Palace, but the two have since diverged in purpose — the Schlossgarten for public leisure, the KIT garden for science. Entry is free; opening hours run weekdays from 8 am and Sundays from 10 am, with reduced winter hours and a full closure in late December and early January. It offers a quieter alternative for visitors curious about plant diversity and conservation research.
