Hiroshima Station

Hiroshima Station is the city's central rail hub, connecting the Shinkansen bullet train, local JR lines, and the tram network in a single modern terminal complex. Historically, the station stood roughly 1.9 kilometers from the hypocenter of the atomic bomb detonated on August 6, 1945; the blast heavily damaged the structure, yet limited train service was restored within days — an early symbol of the city's determination to rebuild. The current building is a contemporary high-rise with an integrated shopping mall, retaining little visible trace of that history. From here, the Peace Memorial Park and the A-Bomb Dome are easily reached by tram in under ten minutes.
