Tampere railway station

Tampere

Tampere railway station is the city's central rail hub, connecting it to Finland's national network operated by VR-Yhtymä. The station building, designed by Eliel Saarinen and completed in 1909, is a textbook example of Finnish National Romanticism: red granite masonry, heavy rounded arches, and folkloric sculptural detail that expressed a distinctly Finnish architectural identity during the country's final years under Russian rule. For visitors today it functions primarily as a transit gateway to Helsinki, Turku, and destinations further north.
