Balboa Park

Balboa Park spans 4.9 km² in the heart of San Diego, making it the city's largest urban green space and one of the most culturally dense parks in the United States. Founded in 1868 and named after Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the park took on its defining character during the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, which left behind a legacy of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture — ornate domed buildings lining the El Prado promenade that still anchor the park's visual identity. Today those buildings house more than 15 museums covering art, natural history, aerospace, and more. The world-famous San Diego Zoo sits directly adjacent. Visitors can walk landscaped botanical gardens, cycle dedicated paths, and catch free Sunday organ concerts at the outdoor Spreckels Organ Pavilion, one of the world's largest outdoor pipe organs.
