The Basilica of Saint Mary is a Neorenaissance co-cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, completed in 1914. It holds the distinction of being one of the first churches in the United States to receive the papal designation of basilica, a title granted in 1926. The building's prominent dome and columned portico make it one of the most architecturally ambitious religious structures in the Upper Midwest, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Beyond its liturgical role, the basilica is well known locally as the backdrop for the annual Basilica Block Party, a summer music festival held on the grounds just outside its main entrance.
