Basilica Maria Santissima Assunta

The Basilica Maria Santissima Assunta is the largest church in Calabria and the seat of the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria-Bova. The current structure was completed in 1917 in the Romanesque Revival style, built to replace the cathedral destroyed in the catastrophic 1908 Messina earthquake, which levelled much of the city. Designated an Italian national monument, it stands at the heart of Reggio Calabria's city centre and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the city's patron. The cathedral is open daily from 07:00 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 20:00, and is fully wheelchair accessible.
