The Sanctuary of Saint Rose of Lima is dedicated to the first canonized saint of the Americas — built on the grounds of the family home where Rose lived, including the famous well into which she legendarily threw her shorn hair. The complex of basilica, convent, and garden is part of Lima's UNESCO-listed historic centre. Today pilgrims throw written petitions into the well, continuing a tradition of devotion that has endured for centuries.
