Monastery of San Francisco

The Basilica and Convent of San Francisco is one of Lima's finest colonial religious complexes — founded in 1546 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its Baroque church features an ornate Churrigueresque facade. Beneath the church lie the famous catacombs, holding the skeletal remains of around 25,000 people in one of Peru's most atmospheric underground experiences. The convent also houses a remarkable 25,000-volume colonial library and courtyards lined with beautiful blue-and-white Sevillian tiles.
