Basilica of Our Lady of Nazareth of Exile
The Basilica of Our Lady of Nazareth of Exile is a classicist minor basilica in central Belém, completed in 1909 and administered by the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará. It is best known as the spiritual heart of the Círio de Nazaré, an annual Marian procession held every October that draws millions of faithful and ranks among the largest religious gatherings in the world. The church's columned portico and neoclassical facade stand in striking contrast to the lush tropical setting, reflecting the strong European ecclesiastical influence on Brazil's colonial-era architecture. Throughout the year it draws pilgrims from across the Amazon basin, making it one of the most visited religious sites in northern Brazil.
