Battenbergturm

The Battenbergturm is a late-medieval residential tower on the outskirts of Haldern, a village in the municipality of Rees in the Kreis Kleve district of the Lower Rhine region. Lightly fortified residential towers of this type were already uncommon in the Rhineland during the Middle Ages, making this one of the few surviving examples — a distinction that earned it protected monument status in North Rhine-Westphalia. Standing directly beside a working farmstead some 750 metres from Haldern's village centre, the tower offers a quiet, unmediated encounter with rural medieval heritage far from any tourist infrastructure.
