Arnside Tower

Arnside Tower is the ruin of a late-medieval peel tower perched on a ridge south of Arnside Knott in Cumbria, overlooking the tidal flats of Morecambe Bay. Peel towers were a defensive response to the persistent Scottish border raids of the 14th and 15th centuries, and this example likely served a minor local gentry family as a refuge of last resort. Today only the partial outer shell survives, listed at Grade II* for its architectural significance. Set within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the short walk up to the ruin rewards visitors with open views across the Kent estuary and the surrounding limestone landscape.
