Baumwipfelpfad Saarschleife

The Baumwipfelpfad Saarschleife in Orscholz, near Mettlach in the German Saarland, is a 1,250-metre elevated wooden walkway threading through the forest canopy up to 42 metres above the ground. Opened in July 2016 to designs by architect Josef Stöger, the path sits above the Cloef overlook — the classic vantage point above the Saarschleife, a dramatic river bend where the Saar almost completes a full circle. Interactive riddles and ecology stations are built into the walkway, making it engaging for children, while fully barrier-free ramps accommodate wheelchairs and strollers throughout. The route culminates in a lookout tower with a sweeping panorama over the forested Saar valley. Open year-round with seasonal hours; a family ticket for two adults and two children costs around 27 euros.
