Alexandria on the Caucasus
Alexandria on the Caucasus
Augusta Treverorum is the Latin name of the Roman city founded on the Moselle river, from which modern-day Trier developed. Named after Emperor Augustus and established around 16 BC as an administrative hub of Gallia Belgica, it grew into the most important Roman city north of the Alps. As a standalone POI in Luxembourg this entry appears misattributed — the name designates a historical settlement whose physical remains are found primarily in Trier, Germany.
