Beacon Hill Park
Beacon Hill Park is a 75-hectare urban park at the southern edge of Victoria, British Columbia, established in 1882 during the city's early development as a British colonial capital. The landscape blends open meadows, mature Garry oak groves — a tree species emblematic of southern Vancouver Island's rare ecosystem — and a series of ponds that attract diverse birdlife. At its southern boundary the park meets the coastline, offering unobstructed views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca toward Washington State's Olympic Mountains. A network of walking and cycling paths winds through the grounds, alongside picnic lawns and a small petting zoo that draws families year-round. Locals treat it as Victoria's primary green lung, busy on sunny weekends with joggers, dog walkers, and cyclists.
