Beckenberg

The Beckenberg is a 408.8-metre hill of nepheline basanite north of Eibau in the southern Görlitz district, a characteristic volcanic outlier of the Eastern Lusatia uplands. Its name almost certainly derives from its geography: the summit drops steeply on three sides, rising some 50 metres above the valley floor of the Eibauer Talbecken below, giving it an unusually isolated profile. The volcanic rock connects it geologically to a chain of similar basalt knolls scattered across the foothills of this region. Hikers approaching via the surrounding forest trails are rewarded with an open ridgeline view over the rolling Oberlausitz countryside.
