Beehive Geyser

Beehive Geyser is a cone-type geyser in Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin, named by the 1870 Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition after its roughly 1.2-meter eruption cone, which reminded explorers of a beehive. Eruptions are highly irregular — intervals range from a few hours to several days — but when it blows, the column rockets up to 55 meters, making it one of the tallest geysers in the basin and outstripping the nearby Old Faithful in sheer height. A small satellite vent called Beehive's Indicator often erupts first, giving park visitors a precious few minutes of advance notice. The geyser sits along the paved Upper Geyser Basin trail and is accessible on foot year-round.
