The Duge Bridge is a 1,341-metre cable-stayed bridge in China's Guizhou province, spanning the deeply carved Beipan River gorge. When it opened on December 29, 2016, its deck height of 565 metres above the valley floor made it the world's highest bridge, surpassing the previous record-holder Sidu River Bridge — roughly four times the height of the Eiffel Tower. The two halves were cantilevered out from opposite sides of the gorge, with the final section inserted on September 10, 2016. From the roadway, drivers and visitors look almost vertically down into forested karst terrain, with the highland ridges of Guizhou stretching to the horizon.
