Sultan Abdulaziz commissioned the Beylerbeyi Palace between 1861 and 1865 by Armenian architect Sarkis Balyan on the Asian side of the Bosphorus. Summer residence and state guest house - Empress Eugenie, Shah Naser al-Din, and Edward VIII of England all stayed here.
