Bigăr Waterfall

The Bigăr Waterfall sits in the Caraș-Severin county of southwestern Romania and ranks among the Banat region's most distinctive natural features. The Bigăr stream — barely 200 metres long in total — rises from a karst spring and spills over a semicircular cushion of porous tufa limestone overgrown with thick moss, fanning the water into a delicate curtain rather than a single plunge. The spring and waterfall together form the Izvorul Bigăr nature reserve, protected under IUCN Category IV; the stream drains into the Miniș, then the Nera, and ultimately the Danube. A short forest trail from the Nera-Beușnița National Park leads to the site, where dense woodland and the constant sound of falling water make it a favourite for hikers and nature photographers.
