Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge

The Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge completed in 2003, carrying US Route 60 across the Mississippi River between Cape Girardeau, Missouri and East Cape Girardeau, Illinois. Its main span stretches roughly 350 meters, making it one of the more substantial modern crossings on the middle Mississippi. The bridge is named for longtime local congressman Bill Emerson, who represented the region until his death in 1996. From the riverbanks, the cable array and deck provide a clean vantage point over the wide river channel and the low floodplain stretching into Illinois.
