Birkenwerder

Birkenwerder station sits on the Berlin Nordbahn railway in the municipality of Birkenwerder, Brandenburg, and has been served by Berlin S-Bahn trains since the mid-1920s. The modest station building dates from 1924 and was designed by Richard Brademann, chief architect of the Berlin S-Bahn, in the Neue Sachlichkeit style — restrained, functional, and free of ornament. In the early 1950s, new connections to the Berlin Außenring (outer ring railway) turned Birkenwerder into an interchange station, a role it still holds today for passengers transferring between Oranienburg-bound S-Bahn services and outer-ring lines.
