Augsburg Hauptbahnhof

Augsburg's central railway station houses the oldest still-operational terminus building of any major German city, a classicist structure erected in the mid-19th century when Augsburg was among the first Bavarian cities to join the rail network. The building is listed as a Baudenkmal — a protected architectural monument in Bavaria — and retains much of its original exterior while the surrounding infrastructure has expanded to eleven main tracks, over 450 points and around 250 signals. Today roughly 50,000 passengers and about 1,000 trains pass through daily, making it the primary rail hub for the Augsburg metropolitan area and the Bavarian-Swabian region.
