Bad Belzig

Bad Belzig station opened in 1879 as part of the Kanonenbahn — the strategic Prussian military railway designed to move troops rapidly from Berlin toward Metz, earning its name ('cannon railway') from its intended wartime function. The Gründerzeit-era main station building dates from that opening year and is listed as a protected monument, as is the separate building of the Brandenburgische Städtebahn, a private regional railway that began serving the station in 1904. The Städtebahn line has been largely out of service since 2003, leaving its station building as a quiet relic of early 20th-century private rail enterprise. The main station remains active under DB InfraGO and is fully wheelchair-accessible.
