Bismarckturm Burg Spreewald

The Bismarckturm near Burg in the Spreewald is a 28-metre brick tower on the Schlossberg hill, built between 1915 and 1917 as a civic memorial to Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. It belongs to a network of some 240 surviving Bismarck towers across Germany, conceived after the chancellor's death in 1898 by nationalist civic associations as combined flame-signal and viewing platforms. Listed as a protected monument, the tower is open seasonally from April through October for a small entrance fee. The viewing platform delivers an expansive panorama over the flat Spreewald biosphere reserve — its pine forests, canals, and meadows stretching to the horizon in every direction.
