Bjargtangar

Bjargtangar is the westernmost point of Iceland and the second-westernmost point of Europe after the Azores, perched at the foot of the Látrabjarg cliffs in the Westfjords region. A small early-20th-century lighthouse marks the cape, beyond which the open North Atlantic stretches uninterrupted to the coast of North America. The Látrabjarg cliff face — extending over 14 kilometres from this point — hosts Europe's largest seabird colony: puffins, guillemots, and gannets nest in the rock ledges in such density that visitors can observe them from just a few metres away. Reached only by unpaved gravel roads with no facilities nearby, Bjargtangar ranks among the most remote and untouched headlands in Europe.
