The westernmost point of mainland Europe — a 140-metre Atlantic clifftop with a lighthouse west of Lisbon, immortalised by poet Camões.

Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of mainland Europe, rising 140 metres above the Atlantic Ocean west of Lisbon. Part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, its bare rocky headlands meet the endless open ocean in a landscape that has captivated explorers and sailors for centuries. Camões immortalised it as the place "where the land ends and the sea begins." An 18th-century lighthouse stands watch over the rugged coastline. Visitors today can obtain certificates confirming their arrival at the edge of Europe.
