Borglum View Terrace

The Borglum View Terrace near Hill City, South Dakota is a designated overlook named for Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor who carved four presidential portraits into the granite face of Mount Rushmore between 1927 and 1941. The terrace sits within the Black Hills, a landscape of rounded granite summits blanketed in ponderosa pine that Borglum himself scouted for the project. It offers a quieter vantage point away from the main Rushmore visitor complex, framing the rugged hill country that forms the backdrop to one of the United States' most recognizable works of public art.
