Mount Coolidge

Mount Coolidge is a 5,023-foot summit in Custer State Park in South Dakota's Black Hills. A wooden fire lookout tower on the summit was built during the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the New Deal program responsible for much of the American national park system's early infrastructure. A gravel road to the top makes the summit accessible by car as well as on foot, offering one of the more approachable high points in the region. From the tower, visitors take in a 360-degree panorama across the forested granite ridges of the Black Hills and, on clear days, far out across the South Dakota prairie.
