An institution of the US Congress on the southern edge of the National Mall in Washington - founded 1820, formally opened 1850. The 1933 glass conservatory is one of the oldest walk-in greenhouses in the United States. Famed especially for its cycad collection including a 175-year-old sago palm - an heirloom from Jefferson Davis plantation.
