Church of the Epiphany

The Church of the Epiphany is an Episcopal church on G Street NW in Washington, D.C., a few blocks east of the White House. Built in 1844, it is one of the oldest surviving religious buildings in the downtown core. During the Civil War the church served briefly as a military hospital; at the same time Jefferson Davis, the later Confederate president, was a parishioner before 1861, a much-cited local detail. Today the church sits surrounded by modern office blocks and runs a well-known lunchtime concert series along with an active outreach program for the homeless.
