The Brandywine Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania occupies a converted 19th-century grist mill and holds one of the foremost collections of American art, built around three generations of the Wyeth family — N.C., Andrew, and Jamie Wyeth. Andrew Wyeth painted many of his best-known works in the surrounding Brandywine Valley, giving the collection an unusual sense of place: the landscapes in the paintings are visible from the museum grounds. Founded in 1967 as the Brandywine Conservancy, the organization pairs art stewardship with active land conservation — it is one of the first land trusts in the US to receive full accreditation. Volunteers tend native plant gardens outside the mill building. Open daily 9:30–16:30.
