Brécourt Manor Assault

The Brécourt Manor Assault marks the site of one of D-Day's most tactically celebrated small-unit actions on June 6, 1944. A handful of paratroopers from the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division — led by Lieutenant Richard 'Dick' Winters — used flanking fire and coordinated rushes to destroy four German 105mm artillery pieces that were raking Utah Beach, despite being heavily outnumbered. The engagement has been taught at West Point and other military academies as a textbook example of small-unit leadership, and reached wide public awareness through the HBO miniseries 'Band of Brothers' (2001). The memorial at Brécourt Manor sits quietly in the Norman countryside, away from the larger invasion memorials, making it a reflective destination for those seeking a deeper understanding of the Normandy campaign.
