Buchmuseum
Also known as: Schatzkammer der SLUB, SLUB Dresden Book Museum, Corty-Galerie · +1
The Book Museum of the Saxon State and University Library (SLUB) displays the highlights of the former royal Saxon book collection in a climate-controlled hall inside the modern library building. Its most spectacular holding is the Dresden Maya Codex, written in the 11th or 12th century and one of only four surviving pre-Columbian Maya manuscripts in the world; beside it sit the illuminated Sachsenspiegel law code and music autographs by Bach, Wagner and Schumann. Items rotate through dim cases because even gentle light would fade the parchment within years. Entry is free, and you stand within arm's reach of world-class objects.
