Caguas Cathedral

Cathedral Dulce Nombre de Jesús — Sweet Name of Jesus Cathedral — sits on Plaza Palmer at the heart of Caguas, Puerto Rico, and serves as the seat of the Diocese of Caguas. Its origins date to 1645, making it one of the oldest church foundations on the island and a rare survivor of Puerto Rico's Spanish colonial period. The cathedral's patron, the Sweet Name of Jesus, is also the patron saint of the city itself, anchoring the building at the center of Caguas's civic and religious identity. With only five cathedrals across all of Puerto Rico, this is among the island's most significant Catholic institutions. It stands directly beside the Colegio Católico Notre Dame elementary school on the colonial-era plaza.
