Calvin Coolidge

A life-size bronze statue of Calvin Coolidge stands on a downtown sidewalk in Rapid City, South Dakota, as part of the city's ongoing "City of Presidents" project. Launched in 2000, the initiative has placed sculptures of every US president along the downtown streets, turning the city center into a walkable open-air history trail. Coolidge — the 30th president, in office 1923 to 1929 — has a direct tie to the region: he spent the summer of 1927 in the Black Hills, a visit that directly influenced the selection of the site for Mount Rushmore. The statue is one stop on a self-guided loop covering several blocks of downtown Rapid City.
