Chiesa di San Giobbe
Venice
Early Renaissance gem in Cannaregio, fully clad in marble, built to house a miraculous image of Mary.
Santa Maria dei Miracoli is one of Venice's finest early Renaissance churches, tucked between canals in the Cannaregio district. Its complete marble cladding – with multicoloured inlays and delicate reliefs – makes the church a work of art even from the outside. It was built between 1481 and 1489 by Pietro Lombardo to house a Marian image credited with miraculous healings. Inside, a coffered barrel vault and a raised choir platform are the highlights. Venetian couples cherish it as a wedding venue.
