Church of the Deposition of the Virgin's Robe

The Church of the Deposition of the Robe is a small Russian Orthodox church inside the Moscow Kremlin, on Cathedral Square next to the Dormition Cathedral. It was built between 1484 and 1485 by masons from Pskov and is dedicated to the Deposition of the Robe of the Virgin, a Byzantine feast commemorating the salvation of Constantinople through Mary's robe. Originally it served as the private chapel of the Moscow metropolitans and patriarchs before later becoming associated with the Tsar's household. The 17th-century iconostasis is the work of Nazary Istomin, one of the leading Russian icon painters of his day. Today the church is part of the Kremlin museum complex and included with the cathedrals ticket. Inside, a collection of Russian wooden religious sculpture from the 15th to 17th centuries is on display.
