Tainitsky Garden

The Tainitsky or Secret Tower Garden lies inside the walls of the Moscow Kremlin, occupying the sloping ground between Cathedral Square and the Kremlin wall on the Moskva river side. It takes its name from the Secret Tower of 1485, from whose base a concealed passage once led down to the river so that the fortress could draw water during a siege. The grounds were laid out in landscape style in 1890 and later fitted with a helipad for the president. The garden is part of the Kremlin and Red Square World Heritage Site, but as a security zone of the presidential complex it is not generally open to the public. Kremlin visitors catch glimpses from Ivanovsky Garden and the wall walk, while a full tour is reserved for special occasions.
