Belmore Park is a historic green space tucked against the southern edge of Sydney's CBD, right next to Central Railway Station. Open to the public since 1868, the land previously served as Crown property housing a police barracks, an almshouse, and a cemetery. Today the park offers shade, benches, and a patch of grass in the thick of the city's transport hub, bordered by Hay Street, Eddy Avenue, Elizabeth Street, and Pitt Street. It's a natural stop for commuters and travellers catching their breath between trains. Modest in size but well-loved, Belmore Park is one of those quietly enduring urban spaces that outlast the city's constant reinvention around it.
