The Großer Küstrinsee lies east of Lychen in northeastern Brandenburg and is the longest lake along the Lychener Gewässer, a tributary system of the Havel river that threads through the Uckermärkische Seenlandschaft. It sits within the Naturpark Uckermärkische Seen and draws water from the Feldberger Seen in neighbouring Mecklenburg-Vorpommern via two separate channels — an unusual cross-border hydrological link. Densely forested shores and sparse development keep it noticeably quieter than the better-known Mecklenburg Lake District. Canoe and kayak routes along the Lychener Gewässer pass directly through the lake, and shoreline paths connect easily to cycling trails from Lychen.
