The Großer Winterberg is a 906.4-metre subsidiary summit of the Wurmberg in the High Harz mountains, situated in the Saxony-Anhalt district of Harz near the village of Schierke. The surrounding landscape, part of the Harz National Park, is characterized by subalpine spruce forest and open upland moorland. Well-marked hiking trails connect the summit to Braunlage and Schierke, offering broad views across the Harz plateau on clear days. In winter, the area around the neighbouring Wurmberg serves as a starting point for ski tours and snowshoeing.
