Hoher Hagen

Hoher Hagen is the highest point of the Dransfeld area in the Göttingen district of Lower Saxony, rising to just under 493 metres above sea level within the Dransfelder Stadtwald. Its geological backstory sets it apart: the hill is of volcanic origin, a rare occurrence in the context of the surrounding North German uplands. Well-marked hiking trails wind through dense deciduous forest to the summit, which offers open views across southern Lower Saxony on clear days. It makes for an accessible day trip from nearby Göttingen.
