Holy Family Catholic Church in Orange, California, was the founding cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange — one of the younger American dioceses, created in 1976 when it was separated from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The church building itself dates from 1958 and is dedicated to the Holy Family. It served as the diocese's spiritual centre until a new church building in Orange took over that role. Today Holy Family Catholic Church is once again a regular parish, serving the predominantly Hispanic community of Orange County. The building stands as a marker of the rapid growth of the Catholic community in postwar California and the suburbanisation of the American West.
