Inori no Mori – Amagasaki Derailment Memorial

Memorial for the 107 victims of the 2005 JR Amagasaki derailment – a quiet, contemplative natural space.

Inori no Mori – Forest of Prayer – is the memorial site for the victims of the Amagasaki train derailment of 25 April 2005. A packed commuter train on the JR Fukuchiyama Line derailed at excessive speed and slammed into a residential building, killing 107 people and injuring hundreds more. The site was established on the grounds of the former apartment building and serves as a quiet space for grief, remembrance and reflection. It is not a museum but a deliberately understated natural space with trees, paths and simple memorial markers.
